Jane M. Doe is a mechanical engineer at Alpha Technology where she is involved in research and design of new materials.  Jane has a BS degree in chemical engineering and an MS degree in mechanical engineering from U.C. Davis.  She is the mother of two elementary school children and enjoys hiking and camping with her family.

A Sticky Situation

Workshop (Brief) Description

Why is it so hard to get ketchup out of a bottle?  Liquids have a property called viscosity that causes them to stick to the sides of containers.  We will do some fun experiments to measure the viscosity of sticky liquids like oil, shampoo, syrup, and ketchup.  We will also learn about how liquids are used in mechanical and aerospace design.
