Call For 2008 Workshop Leaders

Expanding Your Horizons is a conference designed to increase the awareness of young women and their parents of the importance of adequate preparation in math and science. It is designed to introduce them to the world of math, science, engineering and technology and other fields where high school math and science are required. It consists of hands-on workshops conducted by women who have chosen careers in these fields. The conference also has sessions designed for parents and educators.

By participating as a workshop leader at this conference you will help further the objectives to:

• Foster awareness of the wide range of career options for women in math, science and technology
• Provide opportunities to meet and talk with successful women who work in these fields
• Increase young women's awareness of the importance of math and the need for early educational planning and career exploration
• Provide networking opportunities for women in business, education and technology

This conference is planned for seventh and eighth grade girls throughout Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino counties.

Conference Date - Saturday, April 12, 2008

Signup Deadline - February 15, 2008

Location - Sonoma State University

Workshop Format

• Workshop subject should represent a field that requires high school math/science
• Reveal the math/science classes needed for your field of study
• Hands-on, interactive workshops using materials   
• 8 - 20 students per session
• Each workshop is 50 minutes long
• Workshop can be repeated up to 3 times
• Co-leaders or assistants are welcome

General Information

• A luncheon is included to thank workshop leaders and co-leaders for participating and to encourage networking with each other
• Childcare, transportation and some material costs may be reimbursed if requested in advance
• Student assistants will be provided with advance notification to conference planners
• Training workshop will be held for interested leaders in February.
