38. Wings in the Night: A Celebration of Bats

Career Field - Science/Natural History

Did you know that bats can eat more than their body weight in insects? Bats are gentle, passive animals that are vital to healthy ecosystems. At this fascinating workshop you will learn amazing facts about bats to dispel misunderstandings about them and you will get to see a live bat display.

Leader – Patricia Winters

Patricia Winters is the education and rehabilitation director of the California Bat Conservation Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of bats. The Fund seeks to dispel widespread misconceptions about bats; restore injured and orphaned bats to health and return them to the wild and to work alongside major conservation efforts to replenish shrinking bat populations.

One of the few individuals in California licensed to possess live bats for educational purposes, Patricia is a full-time educator and wildlife rehabilitator. She acquired her first bat forty-six years ago, learned through trial and error how to nurture orphaned and injured bats and today operates a bat rehabilitation facility in Sonoma County.
