Did you ever think about how
geometry plays an important role in architecture and
interior design? We are going to look at some examples of
how geometry influences design all around us, such as
Mexican tiles, and then everybody gets to create their own
floor or quilt design using a variety of geometric shapes
and ideas.
Leader – Izabela Kanaana
Izabela Kanaana is an assistant professor of mathematics at
Sonoma State University. She earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics
from Michigan Technological University in 2003. Izabela is
originally from Poland, and that’s where she earned her M.S.
in Mathematics. She has been in the United States for almost
10 years.
Co-Leader – Brigitte
Lahme
Brigitte Lahme is an assistant
professor of mathematics at Sonoma State University. She
earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics at Colorado State University
in 1999 and spent some time working at the University of
Arizona before moving to Sonoma County in 2002. Brigitte is
originally from Germany.
