18. Let’s Build A Paper Dome

Career Field – Engineering

Come join us to build your own gigantic dome with just newspaper and tape. This activity shows how you can make building materials stronger without making them bigger or heavier. What you’ll learn can also apply to buildings, bridges, airplanes and towers.

Leader – Sue Brady

Sue Brady received as A.S. degree in architectural technology from Madison Area Technical School. She worked for five years in Phoenix, Arizona as a structural technician. Sue has worked for Winzler & Kelly in Santa Rosa for 17 years as a structural/architectural designer. She enjoys gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and all kinds of art.

Co-Leader - Wendy Ziegler

Wendy Ziegler is a civil engineer with Winzler & Kelly in Santa Rosa where she works designing and managing parks and infrastructure projects. She has a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Dayton, Ohio. Wendy served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Solomon Islands providing water and sanitation to rural villages. She enjoys many outdoor activities including hiking, camping, mushroom hunting and kayaking on the Russian River.

Co-Leader - Matt Kennedy

Matt Kennedy is a civil engineer with Winzler & Kelly where he works designing and managing infrastructure projects. He has a bachelor of science degree in environmental resources engineering from Humboldt State University and a master of science degree in environmental engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Matt enjoys many outdoor activities including hiking, camping, fishing and snowboarding.

Co-Leader - Ted Whiton

Ted Whiton is a civil engineer with Winzler & Kelly where he serves as a project manager on water infrastructure projects and manages the Santa Rosa office. Ted first became interested in engineering while in high school after participating in an ecology class where he studied water pollution in local waterways. He then pursued a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering at Pennsylvania State University where his studies focused on water supply, water treatment and hydraulic/hydrology.
