Engineering
A tiny town has asked us to
design a bridge to span a river 8 inches wide. But the only
building materials available are a sheet of paper and some
paper clips. We'll explore different paper bridge designs
and test their strength. How much weight do you think a
paper bridge can support? It's amazing!
Leader –
Colleen Ferguson
Colleen
Ferguson is a civil engineer with the Public Works
Department at the City of Santa Rosa. She is involved with
flood reduction, creek protection and construction of public
infrastructure. Colleen has a B.S. degree in Civil
Engineering and an MS degree specializing in water resources
from San Jose State University. She has two adorable kittens
and has fun dancing, hiking, bicycling and kayaking.
Co-Leader – Sarah Yardley
Sarah is a
civil engineer at the consulting firm Brelje and Race. She
specializes in design of wastewater and recycled water
projects. Sarah has an M.S. degree in Civil/ Environmental
Engineering from UC Berkeley. She has one child and enjoys
cooking, riding her bicycle and playing in her garden.
